Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) formally acknowledges a canine groomer’s existing skills and knowledge, contributing toward achieving a Statement of Attainment.

Skills may have been gained through:

•    Work Experience: Practical experience in a professional setting.
•    Formal Training and Education: Completion of accredited courses or programs.
•    Informal Training and Education: Self-directed learning or non-accredited training.
•    Voluntary Work: Contributions at dog centers or similar organizations.

RPL Process:

•    Assessment of Competency: Evaluates your existing skills and knowledge to determine if they meet the requirements for a module of certification.
•    DA Certification: Allows for the formal recognition of your skills.

Benefits of RPL:

•    Count Existing Skills: Your current skills and knowledge can be applied toward certification.
•    Targeted Modules: Focus on higher and more challenging modules, bypassing those you've already mastered.
•    Reduced Costs: Potentially lower certification costs.
•    Effective Time Use: Complete your certification more efficiently.
•    Quicker Achievement: Advance to the Master level sooner if applicable.

RPL Costs:

•    Enrollment in the RPL process requires a non-refundable fee.
•    Fees are $50 per unit, capped at $150 per certification.

How to Apply for DA Certification through RPL:

1.    Apply to DA Qualify Me: Submit your application for RPL.
2.    Provide Evidence: Support your application with relevant documents, such as reports, portfolios of work samples, or evidence of assessment activities (e.g., before and after photos of past grooming work).
